About

We are known for listening and understanding our client's vision as part of the training we provide. Finding the sweet spot between what you need to achieve your level of expertise, create a personalized teaching plan to fit your budget so we can exceed your expectations.

I have been doing personalized training in the creative production industry since 1985. It started by my client’s need to better understand the creative process, embrace new technologies as it applied to their use of creative assets. Training in image classification and file structures are the root of utilizing your digital assets. Levels of expertise range from utilizing all the features of a phone’s camera to creating entire workflow from scratch for digital production house for digital wallcoverings. We can work with cross platform operating systems for phones, tablets, laptops, desktops and workstations.

We create and incorporate efficient digital workflows from image capture, to color management to output devices and client end products.

My website, lightshadows.com, showcases my creative expertise in image creation from capture in one-shot or compositing multiple captures into an image so much greater than the sum of its parts.

My ideal customers are people who have a difficult need or process to develop where everyone else said "it is too expensive" or "complicated to do". At this point, I can help you develop the personalized training curriculum, help with the project to meet a deadline leaving you a recipe for the future to self-manage your projects.

The pilosophy of "If love what you do for your profession, you will never work a day in your life" I have loved photography since my first camera when I was 7 years old and still love to create images in both still and motion.

    Frequently asked questions

The first 15 minutes, at no charge, is dedicated to defining the starting level of expertise and what the student is looking to achieve. At this point the student and I can determine if we are a good fit for each other.

I have been in the industry since 1985 with a voracious appetited for new information to be on the leading edge of image creation and implementation of creative assets.

My rates are based upon the time I spend with the student. Depending upon the type of instruction, the price ranges from $25 to $150 an hour, which covers from personal tutoring, to business individual, to classroom instruction.

Through out my career in the creative industry, I have firmly believed, an informed client was the best client to have. I would bring a potential client’s expertise to a level to fully appreciate what they were getting by hiring me for projects. My customers started asking how they could duplicate my workflow for themselves, which lead me to provide training to my clients for their own in-house production capabilities. I have created personalized training for camera operation, creative suites for marketing and large format print shop setup with production.

I have worked with students just starting with a camera, past film professionals transitioning after many years into digital, Adobe Creative Suite new and existing users, creative professionals, and business owners in the creative field.

Just this last School year, I was asked to give the local Highschool Yearbook staff a presentation on shooting action photography. I instructed them on how to get better images with the school and the student’s equipment. The presentation was on correct etiquette for the event, how to track shots and exposure with the benefits of ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. The yearbook adviser was unable to be available for the day of events, so I was asked to fill in as that day’s person to help with getting the shots. It was cool since I was helping with still and video cameras ranging from iPhone to 45mp and 4K digital cameras.

No question is a dumb question, the only dumb question is the one you did not ask. Do not look for someone that may be good at what they do but will not listen to your needs and help you determine what would benefit you the most. Show your intelligence with your questions, not your ignorance.

Make a wish list of what you want to accomplish. Find images that have the look you are looking for. Even if you are doing portraits and the look you like is of a chair or vice versa, save the image to help the teacher understand your thoughts. What type of camera is not as important as understanding what it can do for you with your inspiration. I have shot commercial assignments with a 126 instamatic, Polaroid 600, disposable cameras, point and shoots all the way up to Hasselblad to get a specific look. So look for what you want to capture in your images so I can figure out how to get you there.
