I was born in Honduras 🇭🇳 where I started my soccer and dance journey as just a fun thing to do. I moved to New York at 10 years old where I was influenced by other cultures , specifically the Colombian, Dominican, Puerto Rican and of course New York culture. It was there where I developed a strong foundation on my crafts which turned a fun hobby into a competitive one. I quickly began to garnered eyes and talks after each soccer match or after anyone saw me dance. I decided to put all my time in soccer which led me to win many trophies as a kid, teen, and adult life. I was always chosen to be captain at every team I been at which made me

Your ballet questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much are ballet classes?

Ballet classes cost $60 to $200+ per month, depending on the studio location, reputation, and the number of classes per week. One class per week typically costs $60 to $70 per month, while the monthly rate for an unlimited class pass is $150 to $250. At many studios, you'll also pay a $25 to $50 non-refundable registration fee.

  • Ballet studios often offer the first class for free to help you decide if you want to register for a full season.
  • Some ballet studios offer a discount when paying in full for the entire season or when registering siblings or more than one child.
  • Private ballet classes cost $50 to $85 per hour on average.

What is ballet?

Classical ballet is a theatrical form of dance using slow, formal body movement techniques, music, and often scenery to tell a story or express a concept or emotion. Contemporary ballet dancing combines classical ballet with ethnic, jazz, and modern dance styles, incorporating faster movements, floor work, and often bare feet instead of ballet shoes.

How long is a ballet class?

While class lengths vary by dance studio, traditional ballet classes typically last 90 minutes, with the first 30 to 45 minutes spent at the barre to warm up the body and the second part of the class focusing on center work.

At what age can you start ballet classes?

Formal ballet classes typically start around age 7 or 8, but many studios offer "pre-ballet" classes for ages 4 to 6, combining games with ballet techniques and steps to create a fun class that helps the child learn some basics while also developing their ability to working together in a group class setting. Some dance studios even offer "baby ballet" or "mommy and me" classes for children as young as 2 or 3 years old.

Can adults take ballet classes?

Yes! You can start taking ballet classes at any age. Most studios offer ballet classes for teens and adults. Learning ballet as an adult offers many benefits, such as developing good posture, physical coordination, mental focus, mental and physical flexibility, self-confidence, and social skills.

What should you wear to a ballet class?

Most ballet studios recommend wearing flexible fabric that hugs tight to the body so your movement is not restricted, and the teacher can clearly see the moves you are making. Traditional ballet studios often require a black leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers for female attire and black tights, dance pants, or dance shorts with a fitted white T-shirt and black ballet shoes for males. Every dance studio has its own guidelines for dance class attire, so be sure to confirm the clothing requirements with your ballet studio before your first class.

How do I choose the best ballet class?

When searching for ballet classes near you, be sure to:

  • Look for a licensed and insured ballet studio that has been in business for 5+ years.
  • Check out their reviews on Lessons.com and Google.
  • Review their website for scheduling information and photos or videos.
  • Read all contract terms before signing.

What questions should I ask when searching for ballet classes near me?

Consider asking the following questions to help you choose a ballet studio:

  • Do you offer classes for an absolute beginner?
  • What is your class schedule?
  • Do I need to register?
  • Do you offer drop-in classes?
  • Can I join a class that has already started?
  • What is your cancellation policy?
  • Do you have any package deals or new student offers?
  • Do you offer private lessons?
  • What forms of payment do you take?
  • Do I need to pay in advance?
  • What type of clothing should I wear to class?
  • What shoes should I wear?
  • Will there be a recital?

Nancy has always brought out the best in me!! She is amazing at taking students best talents and bringing it to the floor!! You simply cant not love her she is not only a fabulous teacher she brings out movement, body position, language, and discipline , but also dedicates her life to the art of movement. It is so valuable for the dancers to have an accomplished dancer like her as a role model. In addition to all of that, I love every class and privates i have danced with her!! She offers ballet ,yoga, tap, modern, ball room she has exotic and structured backround..the salsa is my favorite but i began 15 years ago falling in love with hawiian tahitian dance which she taught me...I became a successful dancer traveling around the world doing luahs and making amazing memories doing solos which miss Nancy choreographed them all ...She creates a welcoming and enriching environment for dancers of all levels and their families to feel a sense of belonging and purpose at dance class. Paxton choreographed my wedding dance, and she made me feel like a pro! She's very patient with beginners, and by the end of it all, my wife and I looked dashing and elegant on the dance floor together. She's also a talented acting teacher! I've nailed multiple auditions through her coaching. I couldn't recommend her enough.

Shawn Swaithes is an amazing dancer and instructor. He knows how to modify his instruction to bring out the best in his students. His competition students have often won world championships or been in the top five in their category. What I like best is that he makes his lessons fun but encourages each student to be their best. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their dancing skills and those that just want to enjoy the gift of dancing!

I havent actually taken lessons but I have been to their socials. I always have a good time. I finally danced with Christian for the first time and I will say that if he teaches how to dance like him, you are in decent hands.

I loved the walking beer tour! It’s cool to do with a bunch of friends. I like that I don’t have to worry about driving to the places and you get to see interesting colorful artwork along the way. The tour gives you a nice base of the local breweries and even some craft beer history and fun facts with a great tour guide!
